OSHA Doesn't matter you need to check with the local jurisdiction if you can or not, IF it's your home then yes you can but If you are Billing someone for Electrical work The No you can't you're not licensed, bonded or insured at the rates that Electricians are required to be, your jurisdiction may allow you to replace outlets or simple repairs and that may require you to have a maintenance license.

Hi, i need advise from any sparky who has been in the job for a while. im 26 ex army and im sick of my chosen career so im off to college to start down a path i should have gone down in the first place, becoming an electrician. i went to my local college and asked if they had any courses to get me started, and were they flexable as im a shift worker. they told me about a 1 year course, City & Guilds Certificate in Electrical Installations (2330). after that, your ment to get a work placement so you can complete the on site assessment training and get the nvq level 3. i also spoke to learn direct and they also said that its an ''industry recocnised qualification'' but i want to hear from electricians to see if they think this is a good course to start off with, to get my foot in the door or wether its just some micky mouse course that will just kill 2 years. can i get a job on this qualification alone or would i need more? also if anyone has done the course, how did u get on after?

A. I don't know a lot about it but City and Guilds qualifications seem to be the most recognised ones for people in the building/maintenance trades.

Q. This coming week my apartments maintenance man is going to come switch out my electrical baseboard heater. I'm a little scared because of the following~ 1. hes not certified in electrical work 2.the last time he replaced a baseboard heater in my apartment he did it wrong causing the fuse to blow and the heater wouldn't turn off.. LUCK FULLY they had not left yet and I was able to call them back in time to which they had to call and actual electrician to do the job because he couldn't figure out what he did wrong I'm scared something worse will happen this time. Like them not being around if it does go bad.. There office hours are very short and in between.. I just called to ask the manager if he received any training since the last time he worked on my heaters she said no but, hes replaced plenty of others in other apartments. A. USA The answer to your question must come from your local municipal code enforcement office. They might or might not require licensed electricians to do electrical work. If the apartment maintenance dept does the job, you do have the right to pay for a qualified electrician to check the work to make sure it is ok. But, the cost will come out of your pocket. Check with your local code office.

You should have basic knowledge of electromechanical machine like motar ,altornator (which you might have got in engineering so keep in touch with all those book )other most important thing is you should have better knowledge of electric software (for example : CAD ) for better understanding.In this type of software you can create many constraints and you can analyze the behaviour of electromechanical machine by applying those constraints on same .
